about

flowering head. The collaborative life co-existing in this project from a wide spectrum of friends and family through variable space, makes it every bit valuable and beautiful. It is a gift inspired through deep connections and carried by encouragement, affirmation and love. The collection of willing and dear ones my heart and song invited in overwhelms me. I am a blessed human being. How much I have learned, been formed and released through risking the created to exist outside my lonely bedroom and space with God. The interwoven fabrics created to design flowering head are just as they are meant. The soft intimate lyrics and melodies and intricate happenings cloud this piece with fullness. I am discovering more in my heart through every moment it speaks, and I hope it will continue to openly speak.

Jenny Banai recorded her debut album, flowering head, at the Space Studios in Vancouver BC, along side artists and producers, Jordan Klassen and Daniel Klenner. Although unique to her own, some have said her voice and melodies are likened to the melodic playful warmth of folk singer-songwriter, Joni Mitchell, mixed with some soulful tresses of folk-pop artist, Feist.
Jordan and Daniel helped Jenny serve her songs well, bringing them to life with colourful arrangements, yet still preserving an intimate sound. Her songs tend to take listeners on a journey, delighting their ears with a fresh, yet vintage vibe, to unexpected places, surprising and yet compelling anticipation.
Her voice, no doubt is her main force, however the mixture of voice and strings collectively, make her sound to be what it is. Dreamy yet vibrant, honest yet comforting, classic yet exploratory, flowering head is a delightful listen.

Track Name: Water
Oh my heart
the insignificant has arrived
Oh my mind
My thoughts are drowning me dry

The clutter of weighty clouds tend to toss about
the failing sighs are crass sails
I attempt to grapple the smooth and stable ground
to feel so tidy as before

Take me back to the place
Take me back to the safe place

Oh my world
the meaninglessness of life
I won't bother
twisting this rag of red dye

In waves you call me here to feel the sorrow spill
the silent mark of open tides
You hear the crave of the ocean still
Scarlet covers a crimson night

and is

Alive

Take me back to the place
Take me back to the brave place
Track Name: Here
I do not remember the former things
Nor do I ponder old days gone
Now it will spring forth, something new

Rivers in the desert, the wilderness sings
Unaware am I surprised by this dream
Come forth are the waters of life that you bring

If you're here than I'm here
so close
When I'm far and he's near
I know
Just being here, inside and beside it is so clear

Distance has created the room to close
In the heart of the valley the river flows
Don't be far from me my mountain song

The grey scale alone has darkened tones
But endless colours we can know
My hope in true love remains in my soul

If you're here than I'm here
so close
When I'm far and he's near
I know
Just being here, inside and beside it is so clear

Fear cannot reside in endless love my home
Throughout all of time
perfect love remains my dear here
Track Name: Alright
High and far above me, you are
Your mind, your thoughts aren't mine, they're yours
and I, I will climb high up to the tree tops
Where you are and you say

It'll all be alright

I will fly in the air that you provide
I will soar upon your wings
I will lie down beside your feet
It's where I'll stay because you say there

It'll all be alright
Track Name: Still
I'm so hungry for you
No one else has my attention
I'm so thirsty for you
You're the only one who fulfills me
I'm so desperate for you
I don't know what to expect

So I'll wait here, I'll stay still here
In your presence, in your love
Track Name: About You
I can't wait to wake
to be with you today
to hear your whispers
as the morning breaks

mmmmmmm

I will run to you
into your loving arms
On your chest I lay
To you I sing a song

mmmmmmm

Now all my thoughts
descend like heavy rocks
But deep inside my heart
I hear your knock

mmmmmmm

What are you saying?
What are you doing?
I wanna know because I'm about you
I'm about you, God
Track Name: Boars
There's a swamp near my home
Infested with boars
And my heart,
so vulnerable to the tusk in their throat

Here inside I am scared
to go out anywhere
Because those nasty creatures, they come around
Try to pierce my soul with their ugly sound

You can't bring me down
no no
I will not lie down
in this stagnant pool

I'm found out and run to hide
Took a chance and sold my pride
I am missed almost kissed
By the sun at its best

Then I tripped into haze
See the dial on his face
Don't think wrong, the heat is gone
Help me lift this tattered song

You can't bring me down
no no
I will not lie down
in this stagnant pool

oh oh oh oh oh oh

you can't bring me down
Track Name: Glue
A window alone it stays
The clearly full and vacant dark compels
Through windy trees
Blowing hearts
Where are they?

Over there
and over here again
I bet he'll find me dropping tears
But at least the fear has left with wind
and no one stops the break it bends

oooooooooo

Lately sleeping has lost its charm
I rather respond to night's wake wonder
Bending low my mouth is dry
Honey wine descends my jaw

Grace is glue
Your grace is the glue
Keep all my pieces
See my misread lines
Fit me into a new time

ooooooooo
I feel a new time
ooooooooo

Lately sleeping has lost its charm
I rather respond to night's wake wonder
Bending low my mouth is dry
Honey wine descends my jaw
My mind's afloat again
Surely night has more than
achy bones, tired limbs, gnawing hopes
Grace is the glue that sees my lines and keeps all of my pieces
Track Name: Before Me
You were before me
I was after you

I'm still after you my king
My lover and friend

Holy, holy
Holy God
This is the song from my heart
Unveil in me the things you are

Here I am sitting still
Before my beloved

Overcome by his beauty
I'm lost in his mystery

Holy, holy
Holy God
This is the song from my heart
Unveil in me the things you are
I know I please and trust your eyes
Tell me what you see in mine
